PREPARATION FOR WORSHIP           Write Your Word Upon My Heart                   Larson

                                                                                 Chancel Choir

INVOCATION

*CALL TO WORSHIP (Responsive)   (Please Stand)

Hear what the Lord requires of members in the family of God:

To do justice, love kindness, and walk humbly with your God.

Hear what Jesus taught about participation in the kingdom of God:

Love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, all your mind and all your strength; and love your neighbor as yourself.

Let us be true to our calling to follow Christ.

*HYMN 716                        God, Whose Giving Knows No Ending                BEACH SPRING

As this hymn aptly demonstrates, we give of our time, talents, and treasure in order to express our gratitude for the astounding generosity, extravagant goodness, and abundant grace of God.

CALL TO CONFESSION               (Please Be Seated)

PRAYER OF CONFESSION (In Unison)

O God, our Heavenly Creator, we confess that we have lost our way. Too easily we are distracted from what really matters. In our better moments we recognize that life is better than death and love is superior to hate. Yet, far too often in the heat of the moment, we lose our heads—and perhaps worse—we lose our hearts. We do things and say things that betray our lack of faith and perhaps even our lack of emotional control. We each strive to control our life. We strive to make a name for ourselves. We make every effort to protect our loved ones and ourselves. We are well meaning, Lord, but sometimes we choose paths that lead us away from you. So today we acknowledge our sin and confess our shortcomings, and with humility we ask you to help us strive for the greater gifts and to show us a still more excellent way. We want to be your people, but we are sometimes afraid of your demands. Our fears run deep and we cannot overcome them by ourselves. You know, O Lord, that we have tried. Remind us once again that the beginning of wisdom is to trust your holiness. Help us cling to this trust and live with the faith that you will provide for us. As we worship you in deep conviction, speak the words of comfort and hope to us once again. Empower us with the Holy Spirit that we may say with the Gospel writer, “I believe; help my unbelief!”                                              (Mark 9:24)

MOMENT OF SILENT AND PERSONAL CONFESSION

ASSURANCE OF PARDON (Responsive)

God provides moments of transformation, sacred times when we sense the cleansing power of the Spirit restoring life and energy. We are even now being changed, transformed from selfishness to service and from greed to generosity.  Believe the good news. Live it. Do not lose heart but embrace your ministry, by the grace of God.

Thanks be to God for His glorious love

RESPONSE 447                                We Are Forgiven                          WE ARE FORGIVEN

We are forgiven. We are forgiven. Thanks be to God. Thanks be to God.

We are forgiven. We are forgiven. Thanks be to God. Thanks be to God.

PRAYER OF ILLUMINATION (Unison)

Loving God, you are the light of the minds that know you, the life of the souls that love you, and the strength of the wills that serve you; help us to so know you that we may truly love you; so to love you that we may fully serve you in whose service we find perfect freedom; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

MESSAGE                                      The Mission of God                               Guest Minister

INSTALLATION OF CHURCH OFFICER

PRESENTATION

As many of you as were baptized into Christ have clothed yourselves with Christ.

There is one body and one Spirit, just as we were called to the one hope of our calling.

In baptism, the one who is before you was clothed with Christ, and is now called by God through the voice of the church to enter into ministries of service and governance, announcing in word and deed the good news of Jesus Christ.

We remember with joy our common calling to serve Christ, and we celebrate God’s particular call to our brothers and sisters.

RENUNCIATIONS

PROFESSION (Responsive)

With the whole church, let us confess our faith.

Do you believe in God the Father?

I believe in God, the Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth.

Do you believe in Jesus Christ, the Son of God?

I believe in Jesus Christ, God’s only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried; he descended to the dead. On the third day he rose again; he ascended into heaven, he is seated at the right hand of the Father, and he will come to judge the living and the dead.

Do you believe in God the Holy Spirit?

I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.

*AFFIRMATION OF FAITH (In Unison)

We believe in God, Creator of the universe, Giver of every good gift, Author of life itself. We believe in Jesus Christ, who reminded us of the coming of God’s kingdom, who commanded us to care for those in need, who taught us to store up treasures in heaven, not on earth, and who gave us the example of self-giving love. We believe in the Holy Spirit, who inspires us to faithful stewardship of God’s gifts, in whom we live and move and have our being, by whom all things are possible. We believe that God has given us gifts to be shared freely and generously, in a spirit of love and joy. We acknowledge that we are merely stewards of all that is God’s, caretakers of God’s home. We believe that faithful stewardship is an act of worship, a means of praising God who has blessed us so abundantly. We believe that God has great things in store for us, for it is in giving that we receive.

*HYMN 711                                         Lord of All Good                                              TOULON

The final verse of this hymn illuminates the Trinitarian nature of Christian stewardship. We offer ourselves in praise of God’s amazing bounty; Christ’s willing sacrifice, and the Spirit’s good gifts.

LORD’S PRAYER (In Unison)

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power and the glory, forever. Amen.
