PREPARATION FOR WORSHIP Praise and Thanksgiving                                    Arr. Wood

*CALL TO WORSHIP (Responsive)   (Please Stand)

We come O God

with a thirst for your presence.

Put within us the impulse for prayer.

Pull from us every grip of pride.

Free us from fear.

Help us kneel in our need

and rise in your strength.

May we willingly become part of that body

of forgiveness and instruction,

wherein our Christ is again made flesh

All:  and dwells on earth.

*HYMN 409                                            God is Here!                                    ABBOT’S LEIGH

CALL TO CONFESSION               (Please Be Seated)                                   Psa. 91:14-16

Give ear to our words, O God; hearken to our cries!  To you we pray—though you are God who takes no delight in boasting, and we have been less than humble; though you are a God that takes no delight in deceit, and we have been less than honest; though you are a God that takes no delight in violence, and we have been less than just. Humble our pride, God, and we will boast only in you.  Straighten our tongues, and we will shout your truth from the rooftops.  Rule our spirits, and we will serve you, and study war no more.

PRAYER OF ILLUMINATION #451 (Vs. 1)    Open My Eyes, That I May See        OPEN MY EYES

Open my eyes, that I may see glimpses of truth thou hast for me.

Place in my hands the wonderful key that shall unclasp and set me free.

Silently now I wait for thee, ready, my God, thy will to see.

Open my eyes; illumine me, Spirit divine!

ANTHEM                                     A Joyous Call to Praise                                            Pethel

O for a thousand tongues to sing my great Redeemer’s praise, the glories of my God and King, the triumphs of his grace! O for a thousand tongues to sing His wonderful, glorious praise. We crown Him Savior, Redeemer, and King. Forever His song we will raise. My gracious Master and my God, assist me to proclaim, to spread through all the earth abroad the honors of Thy name. Jesus, the name that calms our fears, that bids our sorrows, cease; ‘tis music in the sinner’s ears; ‘tis life and health and peace.

*AFFIRMATION OF FAITH (In Unison)                                                              by Lisa Frenz

Into the silence of the void the Creator spoke, and the world came into being. The Word of God in the vastness brought light from darkness, matter from nothing, flesh from dust, life from lifelessness. In the quiet of a small town in Palestine the Word of God came to us. Even though of one being with the Creator, Jesus our Christ, taking on human form, was born, lived and walked among us, speaking the words of life. He was crucified, died, and was buried. He rose from the dead and speaks to us today. He is the one who saves us from ourselves. In the stillness of our souls the Spirit of God, who is one with the Creator and the Christ, whispers the Word, and calls us back to the Creator, back to the Christ, back to the wholeness of everlasting life in the unity of the Creator, Christ and Spirit.

Our Creator, in heaven, hallowed be your name. Your Dominion come. Your Will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors.  And do not let us fall into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For yours is the dominion, the power, and the glory, forever.
