8:30 am in the Chapel: Service of Wholeness

This is a simple service ordered to bring worshippers into God's presence in a more contemplative manner than the 10:30 family service. This service of worship is designed to lead worshippers out of the busy rush of daily life into a time of deep spiritual nurture. Worshippers are encouraged to slow down, separate themselves from the voices of the world that surround them every day, and listen for the voice of God. Elements of the service include Scripture, a meditation, sacred music, time spent in silence listening to God, prayer and weekly celebration of the Lord's Supper. To accommodate the more intimate nature of this worship, the service is held in the Chapel.

10:30 am in the Sanctuary: Traditional or Family Service

Worshippers gather in the church Sanctuary for our traditional family service. This service includes a reformed liturgy, spoken prayers and responses. It is formatted around Scripture, a sermon, a children's message, hymns led by the organ, music leadership provided by a choir, occasional handbell pieces, children's choirs, soloists, and regularly scheduled celebration of the Lord's Supper throughout the year. While children and families are welcome to attend the 8:30 am Service of Wholeness, the 10:30 am Sunday service is ordered in such a manner as to give families the opportunity to worship together.

Fifth Sunday Worship Services: 10:30 am in the Sanctuary

In 2011, there are four months that contain fifth Sundays: January, May, July, and October. Fifth Sundays at First Presbyterian Church will be set aside for "something different" in worship experiences. These services include worship expressions that are different than those currently experienced at First Presbyterian Church. The Sunday morning message may come in the form of a drama or dialogue; other instruments such as the guitar, trumpet or drums, or pre-recorded music may be used. Hymns during Fifth Sunday worship services may be new arrangements of traditional hymns or new praise and worship music. Creative dance may be used as part of the worship experience. Expect something different in worship on Fifth Sundays.

10:30 in Fellowship Hall Contemporary Worship

Our contemporary service is not what you would expect.  The goal of the service is to meet people where they are and to worship God more openly.  We hope you come as you are and leave touched by the Spirit.  There is a variety of music, ranging from gospel to contemporary Christian performed live and recorded, along with different ways of presenting the Gospel including drama and preaching.  This service is fluid and seeks to use all of God's gifts as they emerge.  The Underground is a relatively new experience for the Niles Church so your input is valuable.  The core team does not want to be stagnant and is looking for ways in which the service can better speak to the people who participate.  Also, in the Presbyterian structure there are a Head of Staff and Worship Ministry Team would welcome your comments.
