The Community Connection - Cherry Street

This is our seventh season of holding cookouts for the community every other Sunday at the park located on the corner of Cherry Street and 5th Street. As with the last two years, the First Church of Christ of Niles will be partners with us in this community ministry. The cookout begins at 12:30 p.m. and we're usually there until 2:00 p.m. eating, playing games and fellowshipping.

Our next cookout is on Sunday, August 5th.

Everyone please come and participate!

This has been a wonderful community outreach and we always have a great time!

Friends, summer is right around the corner and we will be changing our schedule and doing something a little new.  The traditional service will be a “come as you are” service.  Folks are invited to dress casually for worship during the summer – jeans and shorts are welcome.  The time for the service will move back to 10:00 a.m. Beginning on June 10, 2018 – THAT IS 10:00 ON JUNE 10th.  We will have Morning Meditation and Sacraments from 8:30 to 8:50; Adult Christian Education from 9:00 – 9:50.  Be sure and mark your calendars for the 10th.

Adult Christian Education

Martin Luther

On January 7th the adult Sunday school class begins a study into: Luther; Gospel, Law, and Reformation. Although the 500th anniversary of Martin Luther posting 95 Theses on the church door at Wittenberg was October 31st of 2017, it seemed like a good idea to members of the class to begin a study of Luther and his role in the Reformation as the end of our study of the New Testament.  This study will lead us to John Calvin and others responsible for the founding of Reformed Churches such as the Presbyterian.

As always we invite anyone interested to join us.  A weekly outline will be available and it isn’t necessary to be present each week to take part. If you haven’t been to our adult Sunday school or if you haven’t been in some time, we invite you to come and be part of what has become a family of believers exploring the making of the Bible. Class is held from 9:15 to 10:15 with coffee starting at 9:00 following the 8:00 worship service in the chapel.  Each week we’ll see a 30 minute DVD lesson by Professor Phillip Cary followed by class discussion. You may take interest in how Luther came to believe in reforming what he saw as abuses in the Medieval Church and how his understanding of Scripture led him to lead a major movement in Christianity. Please join us.

Food Pantry

Due to the cancellation of CROP WALK this year, this means our church’s food pantry will not receive the percentage of funds allocated to our community. Mission and Outreach would like to suggest that those in our congregation, who have supported CROP WALK, give that amount directly to our food pantry.

Wild and Wacky Wednesdays will start back up on September 20th. We meet the 1st and 3rd Wednesday of each month from 4:30-6:00 PM. Children in kindergarten through 5th grade are welcome to come and learn Bible stories, make crafts, play games and more.

Youth Outreach
is a ministry for youth 11-16 years of age. Every other week, games, a meal, worship and a biblical story are shared from 6:30-8:00 PM. This is in collaboration with Calvary Road Community Church.

Keurig Coffee - Grab a Cup Before a Meeting!

EPIC would like to thank the Presbyterian Preschool for their Keurig maker donation!  We thought others might like to make a cup of coffee or tea on their way to a meeting.  We’ll keep this in the Parlor area for a while and see how much use it gets.  Directions are on the counter if you have never used a single serving machine.  Please donate K-cups, foil tea bags and Styrofoam coffee cups with lids!  Simply place them in the counter drawers below.  Thank you!
