Sunday School for Youth

10:00- noon  Sundays

For years, our nursery ministry has provided a “play-date” for little ones while parents worship.  Currently a paid staff person serves in the nursery during the traditional worship service.

For your child’s comfort and safety: You must sign your child in and out each week.  We also recommend that you provide us with your current cell phone number on the nursery’s sign in sheet, and set your cell phone on vibrate.  This allows us to call you if there is a need.   Diaper bags should be clearly labeled and hung-up.  Please include two clean diapers along with personal clean-up items.  We’ll take care of the rest.

If your child is bothered by your leaving, you are welcome to stay.  The traditional worship service can be heard beginning at 10:30a.m. in the nursery via speakers or 1290AM, WNIL, on the radio.

Youth Worship Services

Youth are active in worship! Youth occasionally lead worship in the sanctuary. These have an element of fun, but carry a deeper message applicable to everyone.

Sunday Morning Christian Education

The Making of the New Testament

In April the adult Sunday school class spent one Sunday talking about the New Testament as part of the From Jesus to Constantine study.  With this short taste of how the New Testament was formed, the decision was made to begin an in-depth study of the New Testament as soon as the current study was finished.

On June 11th the class will begin this study.  We’ll talk about the literature of early Christians, examine each of the Gospel writers and his writing. We’ll take a look at writings that were used at the time but not included in the final canon. We’ll spend several Sundays with the writings of Paul and of those who imitated Paul. We’ll do the Book of Revelation, and end the course with a discussion of how much of the original New Testament man has.

The class begins at 9:15 in the Chapel each Sunday; however, coffee and conversation begin at 9:00.  A written outline is provided each week both to assist with discussion and to make it possible to be absent some weeks and still keep up with the study. All are welcome.  Come and join us as we learn more about the Making of the Bible. Questions? See Dan Stenberg or any class member.

Other Small Groups

Reflection Class -

If you walk into the First Presbyterian Church of Niles on a Thursday morning around 10:00 a.m. you will hear lots of laughter coming from the Parlor.  15-20 participants are gathered to share theological readings, and explore their faith together.  They share together their faith experiences, prayer concerns and the joys that fill their lives.  It is always a wonderful time of sharing as they discuss God’s ongoing presence in each of their lives.  We invite you to join us in the Parlor each Thursday at 10:00 a.m.

Coffee and Conversation -

Adults of any age, but especially those in the last third of their lives, are welcome at Coffee and Conversation, a monthly forum for discussing the issues people face as they age and providing support and encouragement along the way. Topics can range from advance directives to rediscovering who you are after retirement. Meetings are held on the third Monday of every month. Watch the church calendar for specific dates, topics, and times.
