"Harvey"
Four Flags Players Production of Harvey is a tale that carries with it many lessons. Among them are choosing your outlook on life (“For years I was smart. I recommend pleasant.”), the value of imagination (“I wrestled with reality for over forty years, and I'm happy to state that I finally won out over it.”), and the conflicts between friendship and family. It tells the story of Elwood P. Dowd, a man who has a rather unique friend... a Pooka named Harvey. As Harvey is invisible to all but a very select few, everyone thinks that Elwood is mad. When his sister Veta tries to commit him, she gets committed instead. Though a series of humorous but insightful circumstances, Elwood is shown to not only be perfectly sane, but made all the more pleasant because of Harvey. An enjoyable experience for all ages, the Four Flags Players will be performing Harvey on August 6th and 7th (curtain at 7:30 pm) and August 8th (curtain at 2:00 pm) in the Fellowship Hall. Call 1-269-695-1150 for reservations.
Studies with Pastor Fran
One of the big topics at the PCUSA General Assembly this year surrounds the Belhar Confession and its addition to the Presbyterian Book of Confessions. Within our Presbyterian polity, the Book of Confessions composes part of our constitution along with the Book of Order. These two collections of documents have everything to do with the way we worship and live out our faith as Presbyterians. I would like to invite you to participate in a mid-summer theological discussion group. As a group we will engage in a study of the Belhar Confession. We will look at the Scriptural basis of the confession and how it does or does not fit with our Presbyterian theology.
Please call the church office (260-683-9236) if you would be interested in participating in the discussion. I would like to meet on Thursday evenings at 6:00 p.m. beginning July 15.
LOGO AND SLOGAN CONTEST
Church Growth Committee is sponsoring a contest to design a logo and a slogan for our church. Something that will have eye appeal, is hip, catchy, and makes a nonmember want to find out more about us. Think about what you see on TV; the “Nike swatch”, “M-m-m Good” for Campbell’s soup or “Your in good hands with Allstate”, something along those lines. We would like it to go on a T-shirt or ball cap. The contest will start the first of June and entries should be submitted to the church office. Have fun and there will be a prize for the winner.
Community Lunch
Free Community Lunches are still happening next door at Trinity Episcopal Church. This ministry has really grown! Now, five churches (Trinity Episcopal, Hope Community, Wesley United Methodist, Trinity Lutheran and us) take turns hosting the event at Trinity Episcopal. June 5th was our turn and it was a great success, serving 60 people. Don’t miss out on the fun of participation in future events. If you would like to furnish a dish, or be a serving team member, please call Cheri Rissman. You will have a very rewarding experience helping out, and serve a vital ministry to our community as well! On behalf of the hungry in our community, your Mission Outreach Committee thanks you!
