Description of Session Committees

The session of our church is responsible for directing and implementing the total spiritual and corporate life of the church. The session consists of elders and the minister. Each year seven members are elected by the congregation to serve a three-year term as an active elder. The elders serve on various committees, each of which is responsible for one area of our corporate life.
 
 

Congregational Life

The Congregational Life Committee is referred to as the social group of the church. Responsibilities include the Congregational Dinner following the Annual Meeting, the graduation reception honoring the hih school graduates, the church picnics and ice cream social and the hanging of the greens. During the year, other activities such as plays, musicals, concert receptions, and church outings are also organized.

Building and Grounds

The Building and Grounds Committee handles all matters relating to the repair and upkeep of all property owned by the church.

Business and Finance

The Business and Finance Committee handles all matters relating to the financial and business affairs of the congregation. It also initiates the annual audit of the books and develops the annual budget for the congregation.

Christian Education

The Christian Education Committee insures the Christian nurture and instruction for the entire church family.

Church Growth

The Church Growth Committee reaches outside of the church to bring people to faith in Christ and membership in His church.

Congregational Life

The Congregational Life Committee develops and promotes programs that involve Christian fellowship. As the social committee of the church, it organizes dinners for annual meetings, graduation of high school seniors, the Hanging of the Greens, and other events.

Personnel Committee

The Personnel Committee assists the Session in fulfilling its responsibility to all employed persons, providing support and counsel to the staff.

Mission Outreach

The purpose of the Mission Outreach Committee is to develop and carry through programs that interpret the missionary enterprise of the Church. It's responsibilities are:

  • to develop a budget for the year to be approved by the Session
  • to support worship services at Westwoods several times a year
  • to support and inform the congregation of special offerings during the year
  • to support and encourage the congregation to support special projects, such as Crop Walk, and Heifer Project International
  • to examine ways both the congregation and other groups can become involved in missions

    Stewardship

    The pupose of the Stewardship Committee is to promote an understanding and seek a commitment from the communicants members of the congregation of their treasure, time, and talent.

    Worship and Sacraments

    The Worship and Sacraments Committee oversees composition of the worship program and special observances for seasons of the liturgical year.

    Church Officer Nomination

    The Nominating Committee is made up of Session Elders, Deacons, and congregatoin members. They nominate members of the congregation to fill three year terms on the Session, Deacon, and Foundation Boards.

    Long Range Planning

    The Long Range Planning Committee ses goals and provides strategies for the continuing growth and spiritual good health of the church.
