~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Welcome to the worship service at First Presbyterian of Niles. The organ prelude is a pathway from everyday life to the Presence of the Master.  You may wish to lift a prayer for yourself, for those who worship and minister here, and for the work of Christ in the world.
PRELUDE    Prière   Boëllmann
WELCOME AND CONCERNS OF THE BODY OF CHRIST
A WORD ABOUT THE MINISTRIES OF OUR CHURCH
PRAYER OF MEDITATION AND TIME OF SILENT REFLECTION
 CARILLON
PRAYER OF INVOCATION (Unison)
Loving God, in whose arms we have found our identity, come among us to direct our faltering steps in the ways you would have us go.  Teach us to walk with Christ through the distractions that beckon us in other directions.  Turn our vain striving into meaningful service, our foolish greed to the fulfillment of sharing, our confusion to clarity of vision, that we might worship you truly this hour.  Hear our prayer in the name of Christ.  Amen
CALL TO WORSHIP (Responsive)
Listen, all who are fleeing from the Holy One; God is calling us; God has called us together.
O give thanks to God, for God is good; God’s steadfast love endures forever.
God is eager to put loving arms around us.  God is waiting to satisfy our hunger and thirst.
God fills the hungry with good things.  Our thirsting souls are filled to overflowing.
Set your minds on things that are above.  Put to death your earthly disobedience.
God leads us to a new identity, to new life.  We seek renewal in the image of our Creator.
Let us worship God!
*HYMN 11 O Lord, How Shall I Meet You? Valet Will Ich Dir Geben
*CALL TO CONFESSION
*PRAYER OF CONFESSION (In Unison)
Holy God, our lives are far from holy.  The thoughts we have held in secret have erupted into hurtful words and deeds.  We have not avoided lies and slander.  We have given in to pessimism and suspicion.  We resent people whose lives seem easier than our own.   We hate the thought of passing on to those less worthy the things we have worked so hard to possess.  O God, we need your wisdom in order to live peacefully within ourselves.  Forgive our sin and make us worthy to serve you.  Hear our prayer in Jesus name.  Amen.
*MOMENT OF SILENT AND PERSONAL CONFESSION
*KYRIE          You Are The Lord          (Sung by All)
 Kyrie
*SHARING THE PEACE OF CHRIST (Responsive)
As God has forgiven us in Christ, let us also forgive one another.  The peace of Christ be with you all.
And also with you.
SERMON “The Lost Treasure” Rev. Fran Lane-Lawrence
*AFFIRMATION OF FAITH (In Unison) Nicene Creed
We believe in one God, the Father, the Almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all that is, seen and unseen.
We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the only Son of God, eternally begotten of the Father, God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made,
of one Being with the Father; through him all things were made. For us and for our salvation he came down from heaven, was incarnate of the Holy Spirit and the Virgin Mary and became truly human. For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate; he suffered death and was buried. On the third day he rose again in accordance with the Scriptures; he ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead, and his kingdom will have no end.
We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son, who with the Father and the Son is worshiped and glorified, who has spoken through the prophets. We believe in one holy catholic and apostolic church. We acknowledge one baptism for the forgiveness of sins. We look for the resurrection of the dead, and the life of the world to come. Amen.
*CHARGE AND BENEDICTION
God has made us rich in so many ways.  Now let us go out to find new ways to be rich toward God.
Let us show our thanks for God’s steadfast love.  Praise God for wonderful works to humankind.
We are being renewed in the image of our Creator.  We differ in many ways, but Christ is all in all.
We have been raised with Christ above earth’s deceits.  We will set our minds on learning God’s will for us.
God will take us up in loving arms when needed.  By God’s kindness, we will be taught to walk.
We look to God for healing and renewed strength.  We seek to walk in the straight ways where God leads.  Amen.
